Briana Jamieson, Winter Glow ~ Night Paddock, 2021

Wainui Bay

610 x 460mm
Oil on board, framed in Tasmanian oak

Winter Glow is a series of oil paintings with accompanying poems, which dwell on glowing moments found in the depths of winter: fresh, sweet scented bulbs; crisp days with low sun and hazy skies; candlelit tables; plants growing on soft, sandy beaches; wide open fields bathed in light.

Night Paddock

Night Paddock you are in a wide open field of grass / surrounded by gentle, bush-covered hills / a wide open sky / a few trees / you feel a release of tension / you take deep, slow breaths of fresh air and sigh them out into the sky above open paddock soaked with sun / old pōhutukawa stretching up to the sky / hills covered in small ngaio and tī kōuka / ocean shining silver and blue through spaces in the pines / a little kōtare sits on a sun-bleached branch / chest puffed and golden in the sun / a cluster of blackbirds swoop through the blue of the sky
